Dear Parents,
Themes: Opposites/ Valentine’s Day
We focused on the theme of ‘opposites’ for the Jan/ Feb period. Our vocabulary included:
dark/light/near/far/in/out/over/under/front/back/loud/quiet/push/pull/young/old/hot/cold/soft/hard/tall/short/up/down/big/small/heavy/light/left/right/stop/go/empty/full/day/night/wet/dry/slow/fast/dirty/clean/
For St. Valentine’s day we learnt the charming love song ‘Skidamarink’ and ‘How Much Is that Doggy?’ and how to say:
Happy Valentine’s Day/ I Love You/ You are my best friend/
Activities:
Crocs and Alligators: We divided the class into two groups, crocs and alligators, and one side sang the croc part, the other the alligator part of our song ‘See you later, Alligator’. then we swapped roles.
Question Time: One student takes the microphone at the start of each class and asks other students some questions that we learn together such as ‘Who is your best friend and why?’/’Who is your favorite singer/ What is your favorite animal?/ What did you do at the weekend?’ etc.
Vocab Actions: We leant actions for our new vocabulary in the ‘How much is that Doggie…?’ song and chose different students to play the part of the dog.
Quizzes: We chose captains, team names and divided up for quizzes on our themes of opposites and other vocabulary. I also used the whiteboard to draw images which the teams had to guess the answer to.
TV Time: I interviewed each of the students individually for our ‘TV’ show (with willing audience participation) where we discussed our favorite songs, our favorite books, our best friends, our families, and showed our talents to the others such as dancing and singing in english. The children are encouraged to converse in english and to ask questions to the ‘guest’ also.
Revision: We revised Clothes/Zoo Animals/The Weather
Songs:
Skidamarink/’Opposites’ song/ See you later, Alligator/ How Much is that doggy in the window?
Thanks and see you soon,
Mr Carey
