Dear Parents,

Valentines:

They also learnt about ‘Valentine’s Day’ and the following vocabulary:

Happy Valentine’s Day/ I love you/

Activities:

Pairs Game: The children worked in pairs with their neighbours, where one child shouted a word and the other replied with the opposite. They really enjoyed this game.

Opposites Action Game: Mr Carey acted out a word and they shouted out the opposite. For example; Mr Carey mimed ‘Cold’ and they replied ‘Hot’. Then we swapped roles.

Worksheets: ‘Children colored in ‘opposite’ worksheets.

Revision Topics: ‘The Alphabet’/ Toys/Favorite Colors/Transport

Books: We read new titles together including:

‘Opposites with Chalk and Cheese’/The Zoo/Little Critter lost his puppy/Spot at the Circus

Songs: The children learnt two opposites songs (videos posted below) which they can sing along to.  They also learnt the charming love song ‘Skidamarink’ with actions (video below) which your children love to sing.

All the best,

Mr Carey

Hello, everyone!

January and February were our Transportation months. We had a lot of fun with this unit!

Key vocabulary: helicopter, train, airplane, car, bus, ship, rocket ship, sailboat, truck, police car, firetruck, ambulance

The children had to flip over the cards, tell me the name of the vehicle and tell me if it ‘lived’ in the air, on the road or on the water. We also pretended to be the various modes of transportation. We completed several worksheets (which will be sent home at the end of the school year.)

Dear Parents,

Although December was a short school month for the students we learnt a lot in the exciting build-up to Christmas. The theme of the month was:

Winter Wonderland

Key Vocabulary: Happy Christmas/ Christmas tree/ star/ present/ bauble/ it’s winter/ it’s snowing/ snowman/ snow/ snowflake/ on/ under/ Santa Claus/ chimney/ black boots/ stocking/stuck/sack/toys

Key activities:

Drawing: We drew a Christmas tree on the whiteboard together and added the important elements such as the star, the bauble, the presents etc.

We drew Santa Claus on the whiteboard, getting stuck as he comes down the chimney. We used our vocabulary to discuss what we saw.

Question Time: Using our microphone we asked and answered questions such as ‘Does the star go ON TOP of the tree or UNDER the tree?’/ ‘Does the present go ON TOP of the tree or UNDER the tree?’ in order to practise vocabulary and prepositions. We also discussed our favorite toys and revised our ‘Toys Song’.

Worksheets: We completed ‘Winter’ related worksheets in class.

Photography: We looked at close-up photographs of amazing real snowflakes together and chose our favorite one.

Key Songs:

We sang songs everyday including:

-We Wish You A Merry Christmas…

-Snowflake, Snowflake

-Twinkle, Twinkle

-Santa Claus got stuck coming down the chimney!

Here is a video for one of the song we learnt together. They learnt actions for the words such as ‘little snowflake’, ‘falling’, ‘my head’, ‘my nose’, ‘my hand’. Ask them to sing the song for you along with the video!

Thank you,

Dear Parents,

This month we focused on the theme of:

TRANSPORTATION

Key Vocabulary:

Key dialogue (We had some interesting answers) :

How do you come to school in the morning?

What is your favorite way to travel?

Games and activities:

We played an action game whereby we practised an ‘action’ to represent each mode of transport, then each child had to individually act out key vocabulary or sentence; for example: « I take a train », and a pupil showed the action to indicate their comprehension.

We worked on several worksheets related to transportation.

Mr Carey’s MS English: September Review

Dear Parents,

This month we had fun revising some of last year’s programme after the holidays and focusing on the theme:

All About Me.

The children learned how to introduce themselves in a second way: « How do you do today? » and to reply « I am fine, thank you! » They turn to their neighbours and role-play the introduction at the beginning of each class.

We revised our feelings/emotions: Happy/Sad/Sleepy/Hot/Cold/Scared/Angry/Hungry/Thirsty and completed a worksheet based on our feelings.

We learnt about clothes vocabulary and completed a coloring worksheet based on ‘My Favourite Clothes’.

We also learnt about animals of the sea (Shark, Starfish, Octopus…)as well as a new song: » A Sailor Went to Sea » which they love to sing loudly! Here is a version of that song:

All the best,

Eddie

Tiffany’s PS English Class- for September

Hello, everyone! We’ve had such a great first month together! Everyone is so excited about learning!

This month we’ve been focusing on getting to know one another and learning our class rituals. We always start with a hello song and end with a goodbye song. We have a circle time where we discuss our feelings, the weather, the season and a color. Circle time is always full of movement as well as listening activities and story time. We also regularly do worksheets related to our theme.

It’s an exciting time of year, full of beautiful colors all around us. This month we worked on the colors red and brown. We will continue to talk about how the leaves are changing color and falling off the trees, because it’s fall!

I use many of the Super Simple songs in class, so feel free to routinely play songs from them, and listen to your child sing along 🙂 (These songs can be found on YouTube.)

Here is our Hello song!

TiffanysPS

I’m so happy to have such a fun group of kids this year! 🙂
